October Tree Days

Those bars still keep on rhyming
And those memories just aren’t dying
The days are as long but a little bit colder
And she’s no closer but a little bit older

She doesn’t notice her chain still chokes her
Or that the pouring rain will soak her
She closes her eyes to see him standing there
With the same old guitar and torturing stare

Staring back through the traffic at his face
Searching for the broken bus to get out of this place
There’s a man standing on the corner planting a tree
With a wild animal barking as he scratches at his feet

She stands there dreaming of trees to think of him
With his voice still screaming as it moves across her skin
It’s October again seventh time around
Beneath the orange sky no stars can be found

She’s making wishes which will never come true
She’ll get nothing but some really pretty view
It’s better than nothing so she smiles as she takes it
To put in her dream box just for the sake of it

All the other dreams are laughing as they dance for her
They entertain her all alone and in October
No escaping from her box as they think of ways
To distract and tie her down to her October tree days.
