Ophelia Distracted

You came out of nowhere and swept me off my feet
I was haunted by you from the moment we met
You felt good about the power you held over me
Your words were like honey tasting smooth and sweet
Mesmerised by you like a burning sunset
Laughing inside when you teased me with your flattery


I could feel my heartbeat racing fast and quick
When you would look over my way and smile
Your fingers were electric running over my skin
Feelings so intense leaving me seasick
Dizzy on my feet I sat down for a while
I was punch drunk with love from there on in

You wooed me with your words and serenades
Suspending me on the edge of anticipation
Your secrets nights drew long and restless
Coming to my senses as the darkness would fade
Holding me in suspense with great expectations
The absent sound of your voice leaving me restless

When the sweet sound of a morning songbird
I did all I could to win back your affection
Even though you still hadn’t reacted
Cutting me with every false and sharp word
Like a scene from Hamlet, like Ophelia distracted.
